Every LulaRoost ride is booked in the app, with a screened driver and a car you can check before you get in.

Zero tolerance for impaired driving

LulaRoost drivers may not be under the influence of any amount of alcohol or drugs while they're logged in to the app or giving a ride. That includes legal medicine that affects their driving.

  • During a ride. If you think your driver is impaired, ask to end the ride and get out as soon as it's safe. Use the app's safety button, and call 911 if anyone is in danger.

  • After a ride. Report it from your trip receipt (Report a safety issue > Driver impairment) or email safety@lulalous.com.

  • What happens next. As soon as we get a report, the driver goes offline and stays offline while we investigate. If the violation is confirmed, the driver is permanently removed from LulaRoost. Our Zero Tolerance Policy, at lularoost.com/zero-tolerance, gives the full rules.

  • The state. You can also file a complaint with the Alabama Public Service Commission's Utility Enforcement Division at psc.alabama.gov.

Who drives with LulaRoost

  • Experienced drivers. Every driver is at least 25 years old, with at least 5 years of licensed driving.

  • Background checks. Before their first ride, every driver passes a multistate criminal search, a National Sex Offender Public Website search and a driving-record check, through Checkr. We check again at least once a year and monitor records in between.

  • Inspected cars. Every car is model year 2016 or newer and no more than 15 years old. A certified mechanic inspects it before its first ride and every year after that.

  • Insurance. Drivers carry their own full coverage auto insurance, and LulaRoost's rideshare insurance covers them while they use the app.

  • The LulaRoost decal. Drivers display it whenever they're logged in.

Before you get in

  • Check your ride. Match the driver's photo and first name, and the car's make, model, color and plate, with what the app shows. If anything doesn't match, don't get in.

  • Ride in the back seat. It gives you and your driver more space.

  • Health rides. Your driver confirms a PIN, the last 4 digits of your phone number, before the ride starts.

  • Buckle up. Everyone wears a seatbelt, and a car never carries more riders than it has seatbelts.

During your ride

  • Safety button. It calls 911 and shows your location and trip details on screen.

  • Share your trip. Send a link by text so someone you trust can follow your ride.

  • End a ride that feels unsafe. Riders and drivers both have that right.

  • No weapons. This applies to everyone: riders, drivers and anyone riding with them may not carry a firearm or any other weapon, even where Alabama law allows carrying.

  • Dash cameras. Some drivers record rides with a mounted dash camera. A LulaRoost notice in the car tells you, and the app does too before pickup. Drivers may share recordings only with LulaRoost, insurers, the police or a court.

  • After the ride. Riders and drivers don't contact each other outside the app. Use the app's lost-item tool for anything left behind.
